The Stoning of Soraya M
I just finished watching the previously mentioned "The Stoning of Soraya M." I would recommend it but if you're anything like me it's hard to handle. I am pretty sure that I cried for the last 15 minutes atleast.. I had blotches around my eyes from sobbing. It's based on a true story about a woman in Iran whose husband wants a divorce in order to marry a 14 year old girl, whose father is wealthy. She declines the offer of divorce, for he will not give her any money and she would not be able to support herself and her two daughters. The husband would not stand for this so he makes up allegations about his wife having an affair and even her own sons turn against her. She is convicted and sentenced to death by stoning. I was horrified that they actually show the stoning... but it was so real and devastating, I couldn't decide whether to watch it or turn away.. I just ended up watching it through blurry eyes. I recommend it, but like I said... it's definitely heavy and heart wrenching. It's like somehow you feel her pain, somehow you know her, who she is and you feel how she loves and how true she is.. It felt so inhumane, but I also felt like by me watching it, I helped to share her story. Her last wish was for the world to know, and I feel like I played a part in that.
